Background My name is Michael Mezhinsky. I am a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) of the Piano Technician Guild. My experience with pianos began in 1974 in Moscow, Russia at a piano factory, where I was an apprentice. While at the factory, I started to learn about piano tuning, and I stayed there for about four years. For the next fourteen years, I worked at homes, schools, and music studios in Moscow while working for the Moscow Piano Restoration Shop. During this time, I had the pleasure of working for several world class Russian musicians. I moved to the United States with my family in 1992 and lived in South Bend, Indiana for one year. While there, I met an established piano tuner and began working for him, tuning pianos at Notre Dame University, various churches, and private homes. I moved to Pittsburgh a year later and began servicing pianos at several places, such as Trombino Music Stores, Judy's Music, and Spratt Music. At the same time, I slowly began building my own business. Since then, I have worked in schools, churches, stores, restaurants, and private homes. Throughout my journey in the piano industry, I have worked with a wide variety of pianos, performing various types of service. While I lived in Russia, I tuned, repaired, and rebuilt among others German, Russian, Polish, and Estonian pianos. My most interesting experiences consisted of working with German pianos that had been manufactured before World War II, and I gained a lot of invaluable experience by working with these pianos. In the United States, I have worked with American, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, as well as other types of pianos. In brief, I have been able to work with grand, upright, and spinet pianos from all over the world. Overall, I possess over 35 years of experience in the piano industry. I hope that you will use this experience to help make your piano look and sound better than ever. Click here for information on scheduling an appointment.
